MXP is Milan's airport that we encourage guests to fly in/out of for the wedding. It is less than a hour away from Lake Maggiore. Alternatively, you can also fly in/out of Milan Linate Airport (LIN) if that is more convenient for you but keep in mind it is slightly further away from the lake.
We recommend that guests stay in the town of Stresa for easy access to restaurants, stores, etc. The boat to the wedding venue will also depart from Stresa. We do not have a hotel block, and there are plenty of waterfront hotels and vacation rentals for you to choose from. The bride and groom have personally stayed at the Grand Hotel Bristol if you'd like a historical feel. Other friends have stayed at Hotel La Palma if you're looking for something more modern. If you're feeling extra bougie, Grand Hotel des Iles Borromées might be the perfect choice for you.
If you decide to arrive to the lake by train, Stresa has its train station that you would want to arrive at.
Walking around is your best way to get around, followed by ferries! There is no rideshare service and there are some taxis around. If you'd like, you can rent a car to visit the other parts of the lake that are only accessible by car.
If your cell phone allows it, eSims are an easy and affordable way to stay connected when travelling internationally. We and our trusted family have used Airalo and Holafly without issues and strongly recommend them.
We're sure you already have your own packing list but there are a few things we would recommend: bug spray, anti-itch bug cream for when the spray doesn’t work, and clothes iron (Italian hotels often do not have them on hand).
